I had a Substack for about a week last year. I didn’t hate it and I wasn’t discouraged by low followers - I thought I needed more pizazz.
Glimpses Here and There is my outlet when I’m not writing my novel. I’m also a fantasy writer - currently working on the first in an epic space fantasy series. I also write short stories and some poetry, many of which will be showcased on this blog.
So I thought my blog needed to look like how a fantasy author’s blog would look - whatever that is.
Think fantasy-ish abstract images and a quill pen logo and something to do with swords or maybe flames. My website colors were always dark - dark blue, deep green, and void black (as background to glaring white letters).
I’m not a web designer. I was terrible at it. I can’t afford a designer.
But I was being held up by the way my website looked. Without true graphic design knowledge, I knew some angle or perspective was off, the colors weren’t quite matching, etc.
Ah, but also the depression
That smothering cloud of exhaustion and apathy can sometimes spark into fiery states of rage or self-hatred. Some of my depression is tainted by CPTSD ( a diagnosis attained only last year) and severe anxiety.
So I searched for simplicity. A part of this healing phase that began last year is the welling up of my creative impulses. I want to write more. I want to create more.
I struggle with perfectionism.
So, Substack became an option once again in my search for a simple yet effective forum for my words.
So, here we are. Glimpses Here and There - Exploring Story as a Reader and Writer. And sometimes talking about mental health and creativity in between the odd short story or overworked (probably not great) poem.
Join me, as I explore glimpses here and there into fantasy, writing, reading, and life.
Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing your story with me. I have bipolar and anxiety too but I’m glad you chose to keep writing despite your mental health issues. Keep going! You got this
